Isle of Man Constabulary - Social Media during TT

by isleofman.com 23rd May 2012

The Isle of Man Police are reminding the public of their Twitter and Facebook services, and how to utilise them during TT.

Inspector Derek Flint said; “ it is amazing to think that when we went live on the 25th may last year, we had just 82 Facebook users and 79 Twitter followers. The figures today are 5331 on Facebook and 2503 on Twitter.

The initiative was started with TT very much in mind, and I know how useful people found it last year to be able to plan their journey to avoid road closures after collisions for example. I even used it myself when travelling to pick someone up at the airport, making sure before I left that my planned route was clear of incidents.

I would ask anyone who does have access to social media to consider utilising either feed to help plan their day. It can also save making a call into us to see if roads are open or closed, which reduces workload on our call handlers considerably. We will try and post as much information as we can.

The Facebook media page is easily found by typing in ‘Isle of Man Constabulary Media Page’ into the search facility on Facebook, and Twitter is simply ‘@iompolice’.
