At about 3.45pm on Tuesday 22nd May 2012, Police attended a road traffic collision on the main Jurby to Bride Coast Road, at a point approximately 150m Bride side of it's junction with the Leodest Road, in the parish of Ayre.
There was a collision between a "Classic" Bentley motor car travelling along Coast Road towards junction with Leodest Road and a horse being ridden in the opposite direction.
This horse and rider were a part of a group of 4 horses and riders. As a result of the collision the rider was thrown and the horse, was knocked to the ground. The rider, a local woman was shocked, but otherwise uninjured. The horse, a 10yr old chestnut gelding sustained very serious leg injuries. A vet was called, who had to destroy the animal humanely, at the scene of the collision. The other riders and horses, although clearly shocked by events, were uninjured. The driver of the car, a local man, was also uninjured.
In addition to Police patrols; crime scene investigators, DoI vehicle examiners and road sweeper attended.
Police enquiries are ongoing, led by Constable Will Moffatt, based at Ramsey Police Station.
Sergeant Andy Kneen of Ramsey Police said “ This was a very distressing incident for all involved. I would ask that anyone who either witnessed the collision, or who saw either the Bentley car, or the group of horses in the moments prior to the collision to contact the Police at Ramsey Police Station”.
