A new Manx beer which has been brewed specially for the TT - officially "passed" by the Purple Helmets - will only be sold in one pub on the course, at the Creg ny Baa.
'Skid Mark’ was officially launched this week at the Creg with the backing of the Helmets whose name appears on the bar pump as having "sampled and passed” the beer.
It’s the first time that a beer has been brewed by Okell’s specifically to be sold in only one public house, with a first batch of 198 gallons, although more may well be needed at one of the most popular vantage points on the course.
A Purple Helmets spokeswoman said, “We can’t understand why Okell’s only brewed 198 gallons. The Helmets will get rid of at least 100 gallons, so it doesn’t leave much for the TT?fans. They are going to have to re-think this. (sic)”
Creg ny Baa general manager Mark Kelly said, “It’s a nice balance between bitter and mild and has a good flavour. The Purple Helmets certainly seemed to like it.”
The Purple Helmets spokeswoman added (sic): “After sucking the ale through the gap in my teeth I was pleasantly surprised by the full bodied, hoppy flavour which instantly opened my nasal senses and bowels (sic).
One of the Helmets added, “It tastes very trammy, just like an electric tram.”
The Purple Helmets spokeswoman added, “Surely now it’s only a matter of time before a beer is named after the world famous Purple Helmets?” (sic).
