Age Concern Isle of Man are appealing for a further two teams to complete in one of their biggest fundraising events of the year – JAIL BREAK CHALLENGE 2012.
Each year, various teams from various corporate organisations, banks, local businesses, take part in this high profile event – competing for the Heron and Brearley Jail Break Trophy.
Registration fee is ?200 per team of three people. Eleven teams of three people, try to complete various challenges and tasks, while raising funds for our charity. Any money raised on the island stays on the island – helping to provide vital services for the older people in our local communities.
This year, ‘suspects’ will be arrested at their place of work courtesy of Isle of Man Constabulary, unceremoniously taken to Lord Street Police Station (courtesy of police wagon!), where they will be charged, fingerprinted and incarcerated. The ‘suspects’ will then be allowed, while in custody at Lord Street, to try and raise bail money to try and secure their release.
After they are charged, they will be transported via coach to Castle Rushen Court/Gaol where they will be tried before judge and jury. Laurence Vaughan Williams (Advocate) is the Judge and Mann Benham Advocates will provide the prosecution and defence lawyers. The Young Lawyers Association will provide back up and also form a Jury.
There will be a ‘mad hangman’ hovering around during the trial – looking for some fresh meat!
After spending a bit of time in the dungeons they will be tried, sentenced and the convicts will eventually be ‘assisted’ with an escape and make (blag) their way to Glen Wyllin Campsite (with no money or phones).
While ‘celebrating their escape’ at Glen Wyllin, convicts will be entertained with BBQ, beer, music and fun and a few team building tasks before camping overnight (tents and sleeping bags provided).
After breakfast on the Saturday morning, convicts must make (blag) their way to Douglas (with no money or phones), completing a series of fiendish tasks en route and give themselves up at The Bridge Inn, North Quay, Douglas – where, after a buffet, drink and a quiz, and verification of scores and points, the Jail Break Trophy will be presented to the winners.
It’s a fabulous weekend, and certainly puts the ‘fun’ into ‘fun’draising!
A photographer follows the events of the whole day, the newspapers will be sending a Court Reporter to the trial, and Blue Olive Productions have agreed to sponsor a DVD of the trial also.
Is your company up to the challenge? If so contact Margaret on Tel: 631740 or email margaret.patrick@ageconcerniom.com.
So far there are a team of doctors, midwifes/nurses, lawyers, bankers and nightclub owners!
It’s a great ‘team building’ event.
You can have more than one team, and it’s a great way to help the older people in our communities.
So many older people in our local communities rely on the services that Age Concern Isle of Man provide (including Meals on Wheels, Day Care Centres, Computer Learning classes, Information and Advice on Benefits/Pensions/Housing), and with your help and support they will be able to continue to provide these valuable services – we are all getting older and we will ALL need some help in the future – help them to help our older community enjoy later life.
