During the early hours of Tuesday, 22nd May 2012 two juveniles entered a number of insecure properties in the Port St Mary area.
These juveniles have been identified, located and charged by Officers of the Southern Neighbourhood Policing Team working with colleagues in the Criminal Investigation Department.
PC Jane Irvine who has been investigating the incidents said, “These crimes have been opportunistic and have occurred in both residential and commercial properties. It is almost a year since burglaries of this type have occurred in the South of the island and it appears that the youths responsible have entered the insecure premises looking for alcohol and taking any money that could be seen. If anyone saw anyone in the area of the Port St Mary golf pavilion or the surrounding roads in the early hours of Tuesday, I would ask them to get in touch with the Police at Port Erin or crimestoppers if they wish.
At the same time as the burglaries, the youths have also entered a number of insecure cars stealing items from within them. I would ask that the residents living in this area of Port St Mary check their gardens, driveways and the areas around their homes to see if any of the missing items have been dropped. The items still missing are a flip top style lighter, a bottle of perfume, woollen hats and a purse."
Temporary Sergeant Adrian Shimmin added, “These crimes have coincided with the fine weather; I would urge people everywhere, not just in Port St Mary, to deny criminals the opportunity to carry out these types of offences. When leaving your house or going to bed please ensure that you lock your doors and if you have the window open, put it on the night vent. These crimes are carried out when the opportunity arises and whilst the Island is a very safe place to live, we can prevent ourselves from becoming the victim of such a crime by taking a few steps, such as locking our cars when we leave them unattended.”
