PRE-TT MEDIA RELEASE
The police officers of the Central Neighbourhood Policing Team (CNPT) which covers Douglas, Onchan and Braddan, are now prepared for the busiest fortnight of the year. Head of CNPT, Inspector Phil Shimmin, is keen to ensure that everyone stays as safe as possible and would like people to heed the following advice:-
• Policing style - As usual, there will be more police officers on duty at key time in areas such as Douglas Promenade and the town centre. There will be the usual friendly and tolerant approach, but there are limits, particularly where people are put at risk or where there is anti-social behaviour. Most arrests in recent years have been local people who get caught up in the atmosphere, drink too much, and commit offences or display anti-social behaviour. People should also be aware that there will be live-time monitoring of the Promenade areas and Douglas town centre via CCTV at key times. The purpose of this is to provide early interventions where problems look likely with a view to preventing more serious offences being committed
• Traffic management - Plans are made in advance to minimise the potential for gridlock if racing is delayed and the TT course remains closed at rush hour. Designated crossing points will operate where possible during peak periods. Despite the best plans, there may be times when delays are experienced. Try and avoid rush hour, leave work earlier or later than usual. Car sharing is to be encouraged, as is the use of public transport. The public can obtain road closure updates by calling 685888. Please don’t ring Police Headquarters as this may delay the response to calls for help. Please keep tuned to local radio stations or monitor the Isle of Man Constabulary Media page on Facebook or the police feed on Twitter (@iompolice).
• Crime prevention - The past couple of years has witnessed a slight increase in burglaries of commercial premises during the TT period. Whilst the Island enjoys low levels of crime, criminals may see the TT as an opportunity to commit crime. Police officers have been visiting commercial premises and issuing crime prevention advice. This consists of taking steps to ensure that premises are completely secure, ensuring that cash is banked and not kept on premises. Consider employing the services of a professional cash-carrying company where significant quantities of cash are being handled.
The co-operation of the whole community is being sought in order to ensure that everyone enjoys a safe TT period.

At 11:05pm on Monday 28th May 2012 a pick up style motor vehicle has been seen driving against the one way system in the area of Kate’s Cottage on the A18 Mountain Road.
There were numerous other people using the road at this time and we would particularly like to speak with a male & female in a White Ford Fiesta who stopped to speak to Police.
We would also like to speak with anyone else who may have witnessed the incident, or may have observed the motor vehicle. Please contact PC Mike CROMPTON, at The Roads Policing Unit, Police HQ, Douglas.
PC CROMPTON said “The dangers of ignoring the one way system are all too evident and I would urge drivers to think of the safety of themselves and other road users before embarking on such journeys”
