Public welcome at celebratory concert

by isleofman.com 12th June 2012

The public is invited to St John Ambulance’s celebratory concert on Monday 25th June at 7pm.

It takes place at St George’s Church in Douglas and is led by the Venerable Andrew Brown, the Archdeacon of Sodor and Man, and the Reverend Peter Upton-Jones, chaplain to St John Ambulance Isle of Man.

It marks St John’s Day – a celebration of the life-saving charity’s work over the last year.

It is a special year for the charity, which is marking its 125th anniversary, the 90th anniversary of its Cadets (aged 10 to 18) and the 25th anniversary of its Badgers (aged five to 10).

There will be music from Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band, under the baton of musical director Rodney Evans. The band will also accompany the Royal and National Anthems and hymns. Musical items will also be provided by Kristene Sutcliffe, John Craige and Ballacottier School’s boys’ choir.

Douglas Badgers will sing ‘The Whole World in his Hands’.

Professor Roger Berry, chairman of St John Ambulance Isle of Man, and Dr Iain Kewley, the charity’s commander, will give readings.

The proceeds of a retiring collection will be divided between the church and St John Ambulance.

Following the service, all those attending are welcome to stay for refreshments served by the St John Fellowship.
