by isleofman.com 13th June 2012

Douglas Borough Council’s Civic Sunday service and parade took place on Sunday June 10th. Douglas Mayor Councillor David Ashford was joined by the Mayoress Sylvia Ashford, deputy mayor Councillor Sara Hackman and deputy mayoress Carol Malarkey in the civic party to follow the parade from Douglas Town Hall to St George’s Church.

The service was conducted by the Ven Andrew Brown, Archdeacon of Man and Vicar of St George’s Church and the Mayor’s Chaplain, the Rev Les Lawrinson.

The occasion was distinguished by the presence of the President of Tynwald, the Hon Clare Christian MLC.

The first lesson was read by the deputy mayor, the second by the Mayor.  The Archdeacon delivered an animated and incisive address in which he focused on the importance of duty and service and offered Her Majesty the Queen’s 60 years of selfless devotion to the Crown as an inspirational example.

Following the service a reception was held in the Council Chamber of Douglas Town Hall which provided the Mayor an opportunity to extend his thanks to his guests for their attendance and to the Archdeacon, the Mayor’s Chaplain, the choir of St George’s Church and the Douglas Town Band for their services.
