With just over a week before the annual Douglas Bay Regatta, entries already are up to almost 20 yachts.
“It’s looking like this could be the biggest regatta in years,” said Douglas Bay Yacht Club Commodore Mike McMahon.
Sponsored for the fourth year by Moore Stephens Isle of Man, the 2012 event will be on Saturday 30 June and Sunday 1 July in Douglas bay. The regatta staged by the Douglas Bay Yacht Club has been held since 1880 and draws entries from the Isle of Man and around the Irish Sea.
This year five identical yachts from the Isle of Man Yacht Club in Port St Mary are entered as a class adding to the excitement.
Racing begins on Saturday at 10:30am with two races on Sunday also starting at 10:30am, all five races counting towards the overall result with three trophies for the top three yachts.
Entertainment includes a BBQ on Saturday night and a buffet and prize-giving on Sunday afternoon at the club house. After the racing has finished a tombola on behalf of local charity Sailing for the Disabled will also be held.
It is still not too late to enter and entry forms can be downloaded from www.douglasbayyachtclub.com with the latest news and updates available on Moore Stephens Isle of Man’s website www.msiom.im or by following the firm on Twitter www.twitter.com/MSIOM, Facebook http://on.fb.me/MS_IOM and LinkedIn http://tiny.cc/xqdkt.
