Albany Tennis News

by isleofman.com 22nd June 2012

The next big tournament at the club is the Albany/Equiom Junior Open 2012 which will be held from Monday – Sunday July 9 – 15.

This is the FINAL reminder to make sure you enter on time.

Equiom Trust Company Limited are sponsoring this popular summer junior competition for 3 years and are providing new perpetual shields. The main events are Boys/Girls singles/doubles U18, U14 and U10 (Green ball) plus Mini Tennis Orange and Red ball.

No doubt this event will become known as “The Equiom”. This is an open event i.e. not restricted to Albany members, so if you have relatives or friends who play tennis invite them to visit for a few days and perhaps also partner you at doubles. We very much hope that juniors from other clubs will enter and provide some different opposition for our regular competitors.

Entry is on line: lta.org.uk and fees are Minis ?3, U14 & 18 Singles ?5 and Doubles ?6 per pair. Members have also been sent an entry form in case they have problems with on-line entry. Closing date for entries is June 25 but early entry would be greatly appreciated by the referee and committee. Each competitor will receive a sponsored T shirt dated 2012 – each year will have the date so now’s the time to start collecting a set. Any queries contact Ian Watson 496293 or Pat Sharp 861497/498597.

The Breast Cancer Care Strawberry Tea has been postponed for one week until 29 JUNE due to lounge not being available. Same format – 10am – 12noon. Please bring along a strawberry themed cake or biscuits. Some of them will put up for sale. There will be tennis as usual (please try to wear something red/white) and a contribution of ?2.50 per person for tea/coffee and cake.  Bring along a friend. Hope to see you there. Non-members will be made very welcome.

If you are new to the island and play tennis why not join us?

Attendances at club nights have been down a bit probably due to the poor weather, though there is always back-up with the indoor court. However with the better weather the committee hopes to see more members on Tuesday evenings from 7pm. A committee member will be on duty each week and refreshments available. All standards are catered for and potential new members are welcome to come and try out the facilities. Further information contact club coach, Ian Watson 496293 or secretary Pat Sharp 861497/498597.

The Albany Mini Tennis programme, sponsored by Panacea Pharma Projects is still accepting new players in the Red Ball sessions 12 and 1pm on Saturdays. Players may attend three sessions without charge but will then be invited to join the club as Mini Tennis members. Children are continually assessed and “promoted” to later groups when the coach thinks appropriate. For details contact Ian Watson 496293.
