Long tow for Peel Lifeboat

by isleofman.com 22nd June 2012

Peel RNLI lifeboat with its volunteer crew had a long tow after the rescue of a pleasure craft last Sunday (17th June) 22 miles West of Peel.

The 34 foot Nelson type craft called Flying Fox suffered an engine room fire 22 miles West of Peel which rendered it dead in the water.

Peel RNLI lifeboat under the command of coxswain John Hunter was launched at 7-25am and after a difficult search found the vessel with a tanker standing by. The Flying Fox was on passage from Strangford to Holyhead with one person on board. The Peel crew on board relief lifeboat Bingo Lifeline took the vessel in tow and in moderate seas began a 22 mile tow back to Peel, arriving at 11-40am.

“Bingo Lifeline” is currently in Peel on station whilst Ruby Clery is in Holyhead for a refit.
