Foxdale Primary School has become the first school to take part in Junior Achievement’s Crazy Hair Day, resulting in a hair-raising ?90.09 cash boost for the charity.
Junior Achievement’s fundraiser Tina Edge explained: ‘The idea of the Crazy Hair Day is to encourage schools to raise money that will help us fund the cost of running our programmes. We’re asking students and staff to come to school for one day with however they choose to interpret “crazy hair” - plaited, twisted, curled, crimped, gelled, whatever they want - in return for a ?1 donation.’
Chief executive Sue Cook said: ‘We’re very grateful to Foxdale Primary School for becoming Crazy Hair Day “pioneers”. All money raised from these days will help us recruit and train more volunteers to further our work to prepare young people for life after education.’
Wigs of all styles were much in evidence but it was the efforts Katie Fox made to colour and decorate her own hair that saw the 11-year-old rewarded with a ?5 book token from the school.
Head teacher Ann Jessopp said: ‘The children really enjoy taking part in the Junior Achievement sessions. They respond well to having different people in the classroom and enjoy the range of activities provided. I believe that the messages that are delivered are really important as it reinforces the work we do in school on citizenship and global issues.’
