This weekend (30 June and 1 July) will see Laxey tram station hosting the second Victorian Extravaganza, an exceptional event of Victorian extravagance and entertainment. Part of this event will include the exhibition of an award winning model of Snaefell Mountain Railway Tram No.4, carefully designed and constructed by Martin Birch of Bradford Engineering Society, who has been a frequent visitor to the Island for over thirty years.
Martin commented: ‘During my time on this beautiful Island, I grew to love the trams on both the Manx Electric Railway and the Snaefell Mountain Railway. Inevitably, I decided to model one of these trams and as it was my intent to run the completed model on the five inch gauge track at Bradford, a Snaefell car was chosen. I am very much looking forward to exhibiting the model at Snaefell Summit as part of the Victorian Extravaganza.’
The model has taken two years to build and has won an award in a Bradford club competition. It has also been exhibited at the Harrogate Model Engineering Exhibition.
The model and maker will be at Snaefell Summit on Saturday 30th June until 14:00 as part of the Victorian Extravaganza weekend. During the weekend, travel on the Manx Electric Railway and Snaefell Mountain Railway will be half price to those in Victorian attire, so celebrate the Islands glorious Victorian heritage, put on your finest clothes and enjoy a grand day out with Isle of Man Railways.
