Manx Telecom’s world class Douglas North Data Centre welcomed a delegation of leading business people from the London operations of some of China's leading businesses. Stuart Paul, Data Centres Director, explained the role of the Data Centre, and Manx Telecom’s hosting operations, to Chinese representatives of companies from a wide variety of sectors including banking, shipping, telecoms, petrochemicals and food. The Douglas North Data Centre meets stringent international standards and is utilised and trusted by many world leading private sector brands as well as being the hosting centre for Isle of Man Government and the Island’s emergency services. Stuart Paul commented:

“We were delighted that the delegation was able to visit Douglas North and see for themselves the high standards of resilience and security which it offers. We’re very proud to have the Island’s only purpose built data centre and during the visit we were able to explain to the delegation the vital role it plays not only in Manx Telecom’s hosting services but also the vital role it has for many of the Island’s essential services.”

The Douglas North Data Centre is equipped to cope with any eventuality to protect the hosting services it provides. As well as a range of sophisticated security measures it has its own diesel powered electric generators and a raft of state-of-the-art fire and flood defences.

The China delegation was led by Zhou Xiaoming, Minister Counsellor, Economic and Commercial Office, Embassy of the People's Republic of China in London and Mr Yang Schicheng, Chairman of the China Enterprises Association in Britain. The purpose of the visit was to allow them to gain a better understanding of the opportunities available for Chinese businesses in the Isle of Man which is an ideal gateway to Europe for the increasing number of Chinese companies looking to trade and invest there. The visit also provided a chance for Isle of Man companies to discuss investment into China. The delegation also met with the Lieutenant Governor, the Chief Minister and the Minister for Economic Development and attended a lunch with members of the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce.
