On Saturday 16th June the Friends at Buchan (FAB) committee held an Olympic themed fundraising dinner Dance in the grounds of The Buchan School. On an otherwise dreadful evening (weather-wise) the marquee provided a warm and convivial atmosphere.
The elegant yet fun evening, sponsored by The Abbey Restaurant and Black Grace Cowley, saw guests have their photograph taken with an Olympic torch on arrival and watched acrobatic dancers whilst enjoying summer cocktails. Guests then enjoyed a sumptuous seven course supper, prepared by the catering team from The Buchan and King William's College, led by Chef Mike Fletcher.
A charity auction followed, with expert auctioneer Keith Kerruish, and this raised in excess of ?10,000, which will be put towards facilities at The Buchan School.
Commenting on the amount raised Nicole Perry Ellis, chairperson of FAB said, 'We were overwhelmed to be supported by so many here this evening and wish to express our gratitude to our generous sponsors and supporters. The bidding for the prizes, which included a Hog Roast for 100 people at the Abbey Restaurant and a weekend at The Kariega Game Reserve in South Africa, was at times quite heated and we are delighted to have raised such a fantastic figure."
Mrs Alison Hope Hedley, Headteacher at The Buchan School added, 'The evening has been a tremendous success and the funds raised will make a real difference to all our children. My thanks to all the FAB committee for organising such a great evening.'
