Island residents will have an opportunity to express their views about the proposed introduction of new police powers during a series of public meetings later this month.
 
Feedback about the Criminal Justice, Police Powers and Other Amendments Bill 2012 is being encouraged as part of a wide-ranging public consultation.
 
Meetings have been organised by the Police Consultative Forum (PCF), an independent body made up of community representatives, on the following dates, starting at 7.30pm –
 
•         West – Wednesday, July 11, in the Athol Room, Peel Centenary Centre
•         North – Tuesday, July 17, at Ramsey Town Hall
•         East – Wednesday, July 18, at Onchan Parish Hall
•         South – Thursday, July 19, at Castletown Civic Centre

Regional members of the PCF will be attendance, along with senior officers from the Department of Home Affairs which has responsibility for the Isle of Man Constabulary.
 
They will be on hand to answer questions about the draft legislation, which is aimed at enhancing the police’s ability to meet the challenges facing a modern force.
 
Members of the public are invited to attend the meetings to hear what is being proposed and to voice their opinions or any concerns they may have.
