Mooragh memories

by isleofman.com 10th July 2012

An exhibition of scenes painted by local artist Michael Starkey of summers past in Ramsey is on display in the Boathouse Cafe in Mooragh Park.

Images of the park in the 1950s and 60s are central to the exhibition which is set run throughout the summer. Mr Starkey, a longtime Ramsey resident who worked from old photographs to create his paintings, said: ‘This series of pictures is a nostalgic journey which I hope will evoke many fond memories of the town and especially Mooragh Park in the days when Ramsey was a prime tourist destination.’

Touring the exhibition Ramsey Town Commissioners’ chairman Captain Nigel Malpass observed: ‘Michael has captured the very essence of the enduring appeal of Ramsey and Mooragh Park in these paintings which serve as a wonderful advertisement for our town and which I hope will inspire more visitors to come to Ramsey to create their own happy memories.’

Prints of the paintings are on sale at www.fromdaysgoneby.com.
