Mini athletes to take over Nobles Park

by isleofman.com 16th July 2012

In celebration of sport on the Isle of Man and London 2012, several local sports clubs will be coming together on Sunday 12th August to offer families sports tasters and challenges in Nobles Park.

Children and adults alike will be able to try a new sport or play their favourite sport and have the opportunity to be awarded spot prizes and medals.

Sports on offer will include football, rugby, hockey, athletics, judo, gymnastics, tennis and basketball. There will also be a Disability Multisport area ran by Manx Sport and Recreation and the BMX Track will be open to those with bikes.

Whether watching or taking part, there will be something for everyone with face painting, opportunity to have your photograph taken with an Olympic Torch, picnic area and BBQ.

Grill in the Park and Henry’s Cafe will also be offering family friendly lunches and snacks and Roger Davies will be completing part of The Million Step Challenge.

Crossroads Care will be hosting the event to raise funds for the charity. Alex Wilson, Crossroads Care’s Fund-raiser, said: “Mini Olympic Games 2012 caters for all ages and abilities – though you do not have to be a mini athlete to take part, just looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon this summer holiday. Mini challenges with prizes up for grabs will be on offer but it’s really about taking part and having fun, and everyone who takes part will receive a certificate.”

Crossroads Care asks for a ?5 donation per family to take part. All funds raised from the day will help fund Crossroads Care services including Care at Home, Young Carers’ Project, Crossroads Community Venture and Derby House Nursery.

Registration to take part in the Mini Olympic Games 2012 is now open. Register online to attend the event at www.crossroadsiom.org or contact Alex Wilson on 673103 or awilson@crossroadsiom.org. Registration closes 6th August 2012.
