by isleofman.com 23rd July 2012

Please see the following requests for information from the Isle of Man Constabulary:

The Western Neighbourhood Policing Team are appealing for witnesses following the theft of two large metal sheets taken from a property on the Peel to Kirk Michael coast road in the area of Lhergydhoo.  Taken from between 8.30pm on Friday 20th July and 10am Saturday 21st July, the metal sheets where covering a cattle grid and used to assist in the entry and exit of the property concerned.  Police believe due to the weight of the metal sheets the perpetrators may have used a vehicle to assist in the lifting and removal of them damaging the property entrance wall in the process.  The sheets described as rusty brown in colour are approximately 4.5 x 2.5 and 3 x 5 feet in size.   Police are requesting that anyone with information contact Police Head Quarters on 631212 or to call into any Police Station.

About 0030hrs on Thursday 10th May 2012 the male seen in this picture, wearing a black jacket and having short black hair, was seen to take a pedal cycle from the porch area of Jaks on Loch Promenade.

He is known to have made his way up the promenade towards Quids Inn.

The bike is a Black Carrera mountain bike with red letters and white wheel trims and seat. There is also red lettering on the white wheel trims.

On Sunday 22nd July 2012 between 3.00pm and 3.30pm on the Glen Moore Road, near Tynwald Mills in St. Johns, a near collision has occurred which Police are appealing for information about. A horse with mounted rider have been walking on this road from the Poortown Road in Peel, down the hill and just before the left hand turn off at the white bridge to Tynwald Mills, a blue or green coloured 4x4 jeep vehicle has sped down in the same direction at such speed that the driver has only seen the horse and rider at the last moment and swerved to avoid colliding with them.

The speed and sound of the brakes has spooked the horse which has bolted and slipped on the road, falling and was nearly hit by this vehicle. The rider has managed to jump off the horse into the hedge otherwise she would have been thrown into the pathway of the vehicle. The horse has sustained substantial cuts and injuries to its front legs, also facial injuries. Police are requesting information about this vehicle or driver as they have not stopped and would have seen the horse lying in the road with the rider yet have continued on at speed.

It is vitally important for all road users to be mindful of their speed and remember to drive or ride in appropriate manner for the conditions, especially in Summer when the hedges are thicker and there are more motorbikes, horse riders, cyclists, runners, walkers possibly with children etc on the roads that are more difficult to see.

Anyone with information about this matter is urged to contact Constable 273 Lissa BARKLIE at Police Headquarters on 631212.
