Local charity Crossroads Care held the first of what is hoped to be an annual Golf Day at Douglas Golf Club last Thursday.
The day was well supported by local businesses and raised over ?3,000 for the charity.
Title sponsor Canada Life International entered a team but were narrowly beaten to first position by Taxigolfers who took the Golf Day trophy home.
Tom Ross, Chairman of Taxi Drivers Golf Society and team member, said: “The Taxigolfers team were very happy to support the inaugural Crossroads Care Charity Golf Day and had an excellent day on the course and in the clubhouse”.
“Many thanks to Mike Vipond and Douglas Golf Club for hosting the event, Alex Wilson for organising everything and everyone who turned out to play. We hope to successfully defend the 'Trophy' next year”.
Andrew Moody of Canada Life International took the prize for Longest Drive and Aiden Davin of Barclays won Nearest the Pin.
Thanks to title sponsors Canada Life International and joint sponsors Rossborough Insurance and Cavendish Trust, all funds raised from the day will support Crossroads Care’s life enhancing work with carers and those they care for within the community.
Sean Christian, Managing Director of title sponsors Canada Life International commented: “Canada Life was delighted to sponsor this year’s Crossroads Care Golf Day. The charity works tirelessly to raise funds in order for it to continue to provide its exceptional services, enhancing the lives of many on our Island. Many feel the pinch in the times we live in and that is especially the case for our many charities on the Isle of Man, including Crossroads Care, who find it increasingly difficult to raise the necessary funds to carry on their good work. On behalf of the charity I’d like to thank all those teams who entered and help raise such a tremendous amount for the charity and congratulations to IOM Taxigolfers on winning the event”.
