Silver medals have been awarded to two Okells products in the 2012 International Beer Challenge.
Now in its 16th year the challenge, which attracts entries from more than 30 countries, saw the judges award silver to Okells’ Aile and Dr Okells IPA.
Okells’ head brewer Dr Mike Cowbourne said: ‘It’s always extremely rewarding for the quality of our brews to be recognised by our industry peers. Aile is a dark complex brew that has a chocolatey malt flavour with hints of smokiness while Dr Okells IPA is distinguished by its attractive citrus aroma. Thanks to the innovative use of New World hops Okells beers are unfailingly popular with consumers and regularly achieve success in tasting challenges.
‘Accolades such as these silver medals are yet further examples of Okells’ reputation for quality born out of more than 150 years of brewing expertise.’

Okells has also triumphed in previous years in the challenge. In 2011 1907 secured a silver medal and Aile and Mac Lir won bronze medals, while in 2009 Aile won a speciality gold award. Aile also won the Europe’s Best Flavoured Porter category in 2011 and 2010 in the World Beer Awards, the global challenge that selects the best international beer styles from around the world.
The International Beer Challenge is dedicated to rewarding and celebrating excellence in brewing. It operates a rigorous independent assessment process bringing together more than 50 judges from around the world and across the industry.
