Amazing Maze at the Southern Agricultural Show this weekend.

by isleofman.com 25th July 2012

Under the cover of near darkness, members of the Manx National Farmers’ Union have been assembling 6’ high larch panels, which they had been busy constructing on a farm during many of the wet afternoons which we have all been experiencing.

A neat grid work of squares was marked out on the ground and the structure started to be assembled.

Under the direction of the Union President, Ray Craine, many willing volunteers  started assembling the panels and building an eye catching wooden structure – a 40’ x 40’ wooden maze.

Ray Craine explains “During the winter the MNFU’s Publicity Committee met and discussed possible Agricultural Show exhibits and the idea of building a maze to showcase farming and food production was born. Like farming each turn in the maze will reveal something unexpected – there will be a mix of live and static and interactive displays which we would hope will appeal to a wide range of the Manx public and visitors.”

The Forestry Division of DEFA have been very helpful with the provision of the larch at cost price, the Isle of Man Farmers have supplied the steel work and 'I Love Manx' has contributed to the static displays – volunteers from the Manx NFU have built all of the Maze and are looking forward to seeing visitors experiencing the challenge of the maze whilst learning more about Manx farming and food.
