Preparations are fully underway by Barclays Isle of Man employees for the ‘?50k in 5 Days’ Challenge. Inspired by Challenge 500, a Prince’s Trust scheme, staff across the UK islands and Glasgow will be taking part in a number of fundraising activities to help raise ?25,000 for local charities which will be matched pound for pound by Barclays.
The event takes place between the 6 – 10 August and the aim is for each team to raise as much as possible. The team in the Isle of Man is aiming to contribute significantly to the fifty thousand pound target with the majority of funds raised to be donated to its Charity of the Year, Crossroads Care.
With just four weeks to go until the event, the volunteers are busy planning and preparing for a wide range of events and activities including an in-branch triathlon, car wash, cake sale, auction and much more.
Lawrence Looney, who has been co-ordinating the event said, ‘We are really looking forward to making a difference to a number of local charities whilst having some fun. Each year we raise a significant amount of money for local charities, and this year we aim to beat our previous fundraising record. We are actively encouraging all our colleagues to get involved in any way they can and our planned external events will enable local residents and businesses to get involved too.’
On Wednesday 8th August the newly transformed Douglas branch of Barclays will be hosting an Olympic themed triathlon. Carrefour Heath & Fitness Club in Douglas has donated equipment for the day and teams from across Barclays will be competing to try to beat cycling and rowing targets set by Olympic greats such as the island’s own Mark Cavendish and Steve Redgrave.
If you or your company would like to enter a team and compete against Barclays or would like more information on the event please contact Lucy Cureton at lucy.cureton@barclays.com. The official Olympic torch will also be in the branch on Wednesday 8th August, with photo opportunities available.
Another of the main events planned is a race night scheduled for Saturday 11th August. The event is being held in the Masonic Hall on Woodbourne Road in Douglas, and promises to be a fantastic event. The event is open to residents, clients and businesses Island-wide to attend. Tickets are on sale for ?3 each or a table of 10 can be purchased for ?25. If would like to purchase tickets or would like further information on the event please contact Eloise Richings at Eloise.richings@barclays.com.
Chair of the Barclays Charity Committee in the Isle of Man Stuart Nelson said, ‘Alongside our ongoing volunteering activities for our 2012 Charity of The Year - Crossroads Care, we see this as an exciting project and our team is working hard to ensure that we raise significant sums. Everyone is enthusiastic about the Challenge, which promises to be both fun and inspiring, as well as being an original and effective way to support charities and raise funds for worthy causes. We are really looking forward to the start of the event in August.’
