The Department’s Manx Food Theatre at the Royal Manx Agricultural Show on August 10th and 11th is hosting an exciting programme of cooking with farmers, chefs and others involved in Manx food production. Whilst farmers share insights into their work and how they produce food, a recipe associated with their sector of farming will be cooked and can be tasted by the audience.
Recipes will include Manx Crab cakes, Red Wine Bread, Lemon Meringue ice cream and Loaghtan lamb fillet. On Saturday, chef Butch Buttery will invite the audience to taste Roast Hake with colcannon, Queenies and lobster veloute. This special recipe is one which he is taking to Ireland for a Celtic Cookery Competition in September so he will be looking for feedback to help him win!
Starting at 3pm on Friday, 4 local chefs will battle it out in the Manx Food Theatre to win a place in the finals of the I Love Manx “Chef of the Year” competition, held at the Isle of Man Food & Drink Festival on 22nd September. Their recipes, and all others cooked during the Show, will use a wide range of Manx produce.
DEFA Minister Phil Gawne said: “apart from being entertaining, the demonstrations in the Manx Food Theatre are designed to pass on hints and tips to help home cooks, provide lots of ideas for how to use our quality local Manx produce and make a link between consumers and the Manx farmers who produce the food which we all enjoy eating. I’m looking forward to some delicious tastings!”
