Team Extreme stars ready for Royal Manx Show

by isleofman.com 3rd August 2012

Some of the world’s best BMX stunt riders, skateboarders, and inline skaters will entertain crowds at this year’s Royal Manx Show thanks to sponsorship from Manx Telecom. UK-based Team Extreme has announced a star-studded line-up who will perform thrilling tricks and stunts at the show held at Knockaloe Farm, Patrick, on August 10 and 11.

Team Extreme will be bringing four of its world class performers to the Island for the first time - MC and inline skater Doug Peel-Yates; skateboarder Dave Monaghan; inline skater Andy Gilbert; and BMX rider Mike Curley. Doug has been crowned British inline skating champion three times and is currently ranked second in the UK. He has travelled the world performing amazing half-pipe stunts including huge airs, flips and spins. In 12 years performing with Team Extreme Doug has thrilled crowds at shows around the world including events in China, Egypt, South Africa and Beirut.

Dave has been skating for 10 years and has performed with Team Extreme in tours to China and Turkey. He also rides for Ekta skateboards and Projekts skateshop. Andy won his place on the team by winning an inline skating competition in 2007 and won the Inline Street Am at NASS 2010. He has a number of podium finishes in big competitions and has even featured in a poster campaign for Renault cars. Mike has only been riding for about four years, but the 18-year-old is one to watch on the BMX scene after his recent trip to Lisbon to film his latest edit for the We The People cycle company, which can be seen here http://wethepeoplebmx.de/wtp-blog/2012/02/23/mike-curley-a-week-in-lisbon/.

Team Extreme will do eight performances, four on each day, featuring breathtaking ramp tricks and high-flying mid-air stunts. In between each display their experts will be holding coaching sessions for kids to learn BMX and skate skills - and their mums and dads can join in too if they fancy having a go!

David Smith, Manx Telecom Marketing Director, said:

“There has been a massive amount of interest in Team Extreme’s first visit to the Island, and it promises to be a great show. It’s also a unique opportunity to learn new skills from some truly world class performers and Manx Telecom is delighted to add such a great spectacle to one of the Island’s most popular community events.”

Anyone wishing to take part in coaching sessions must sign a Team Extreme indemnity form, and under-16s must have this form signed by their parent or guardian. The form can be downloaded at www.manxtelecom.com/show but additional forms will be available at the Team Extreme stand at the Royal Manx Show. All equipment will be provided on the day for coaching sessions, but it’s OK to bring along your own BMX bike, skateboard, scooter, or skates.

The Royal Manx Show with Manx Telecom is the latest major event to be sponsored by the Island’s leading telecoms provider. The show is the Island’s second biggest public attraction after the TT, but Manx Telecom is aiming to boost the appeal of the event even further by attracting more young visitors.
