Government figures show rise in unemployment

by isleofman.com 8th August 2012

At the end of July unemployment stood at 1017, an unemployment rate of 2.3%.

During the month 255 signed on and 230 signed off, giving an increase of 25 in the total registered unemployed. Of the total unemployed 695 are males and 322 are females.

A total of 460 vacancies were notified to the Job Centre during the month and at the end of the month 196 positions were still vacant and held on file.

The numbers signing on to the register were inflated by students returning to the Island after term end, but also by increases in the number of individuals having left or lost jobs in retailing and catering.

Details can be found in the key statistical data section of the Economic Affairs web page http://www.gov.im/treasury/economic.
