Staff at Fairbairn Private Bank were feeling lucky when the bank’s sustainability forum hosted a competition to judge who had the ‘greenest’ fingers. As part of the Fairbairn Private Bank sustainability forum’s campaign to raise awareness of the environment, each member of staff received a small plant pot with four-leaf clover seeds. Staff had three months to nurture and grow their seedlings into blossoming four-leaf clovers – the best-looking clovers won prizes.
“We are committed to practising, encouraging and enabling environmental sustainability throughout the bank. Not only do we have a dedicated sustainability forum to help raise awareness, but we are also sustainable in our day-to-day activities,” commented Greg Horton, managing director.
Paper, electricity and water usage is monitored and targeted on a regular basis and this year all clients were encouraged to opt for online statements and valuations rather than paper ones. Fairbairn Private Bank also recycles print and photocopier toners, old mobile phones, cartridges and used stamps (for local charity funds) across all its offices. In addition, the staff recycle all glass, aluminium, plastic, ring-pulls and vegetable matter, including their teabags.
Horton continued, “Here at Fairbairn Private Bank, we recognise that reducing our carbon footprint and being more mindful of the environment is critical and it is also important to involve all our staff in these important issues.”
Fairbairn Private Bank’s sustainability forum, which was set up at the beginning of the year, serves as a platform to raise awareness of sustainability among staff within the organisation. Each quarter the forum introduces a new campaign to promote awareness of different issues and how staff manage their own impact by focusing on environmental issues, understanding how each of them can reduce carbon emissions, and promoting sustainable living. With offices in the Isle of Man, Jersey, UK, Dubai and South Africa, the bank’s aim is to have sustainability at the forefront of staff’s minds and allow each office to work together to make Fairbairn Private Bank a ‘greener’ organisation.
