Department of Infrastructure issue flooding update

by isleofman.com 17th August 2012
The Department of Infrastructure released the following Press Release to update on the roads following today's flooding:

Following sustained heavy rain, we previously reported that the Department has mobilised substantial resources to deal with flooding issues around the Island and on the Mountain Road, and good progress has been made towards full recovery.

The debris on the Mountain Road has been largely cleared, however, sections of the road at the 32nd Milestone and Keppel Gate have lifted and failed due to ground water pressure.  These areas will have to be completely re-laid.

We plan to complete these repairs by 12 noon tomorrow, Saturday, and the Road will remain closed until then.  We will endeavour to complete the work more quickly and open the road earlier, if possible.

Information on the current status can be found on the road watch website, and on the Matrix signs. http://www.gov.im/residents/roadnotifications/.

Please drive carefully, keep your speed down due to the risk of aquaplaning and use headlights and fog lights as appropriate.

To report highway flooding issues, please call 686665 or via enquiries@highways.gov.im.
