Ideal shooting conditions at the start of the day on Sunday at Ronaldsway were a very welcome change for the handful of archers who turned out to shoot Fita and Metric rounds. The juniors were due to shoot a short metric round for the Junior Championships in the afternoon session, but the clouds gathered as predicted by the weatherman, and the rain started at 12 noon becoming gradually heavier and by 1.15pm it was clear that the conditions were not ideal and the Championships were postponed until next weekend.
However archers had shot enough arrows in the morning session to record scores for shorter Fita rounds which will count towards the leagues. In the Gents compound division once again there was a good competition between Colin Moore and Peter Mumford and they recorded equal scores at the end of the 90m distance. However, Colin had four poor arrows in the 70m distance allowing Peter to take the lead and he finished 14 points ahead at the end of the round. Dave Moore finished in third place unfortunately having a miss in the 90m distance which affected his overall score and he was unable to make up the difference. Adrian Breed also enjoyed one of his few shoots outdoors this season and he shot a Short Metric round for the first time recording a score of 355.
Sarah Rigby and Joy Gough shot a Long Metric round with Sarah showing her dominant form and easily taking first place although Joy shot her best round this season. The two IOM Sport sponsored George sisters elected to shoot a 50m round and had a close contest. Although Aalin’s consistency gained her a few extra points in each dozen, she only finished up 18 points ahead of younger sister Kirsten by the end of the round – watch out Aalin she is on your tail!
