Donations made during Christian Aid Week have now been counted and banked, and the total came to ?40,500, comfortably exceeding the target of ?31,475, and enabling over 5,000 villagers in Mali to receive safe drinking water through the digging of wells. The target figure was matched by Tynwald’s overseas aid committee, bringing the grand total to ?71,975.
Phil Craine, Christian Aid’s area officer for the IoM, said ‘This is a wonderful total and we’re grateful to all donors as well as supporters who tirelessly knocked on thousands of doors on the Island doors to collect the red envelopes. It will make a huge difference to the health and lives of thousands in one of the world’s poorest countries.’
