Huge crowds at Royal Manx Agricultural Show with Manx Telecom

by isleofman.com 29th August 2012

The Royal Manx Agricultural Show with Manx Telecom is the Island’s second biggest public attraction after the TT - and this year’s event at Knockaloe Farm, Patrick, once again proved its enduring popularity. Well over 20,000 visitors turned up during the two days of the show to see agricultural competitions, trade stands, motorcycle stunt riding, classic car parades, gymnastics displays, and arts and craft stalls to mention just a few of the attractions. There were also plenty of opportunities to taste food and drink from Manx producers. Through its sponsorship Manx Telecom has aimed to raise the profile of the event even further and attract a greater number of young visitors to the show by bringing over Team Extreme - a world renowned team of BMX and skateboard stunt performers. Team Extreme thrilled the crowds with daring ramp tricks and some youngsters visiting the show also got to learn new skills in coaching sessions with some of the performers.

David Smith, Manx Telecom Marketing Director, said:

“We’re very proud to sponsor the Royal Manx Agricultural Show and delighted to see such huge crowds enjoying all of the entertainment. Team Extreme proved to be particularly popular and all of their shows and coaching sessions added a great attraction for children and young people. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to making this year’s show such a successful event.”

2012 marks 60 years since the show was given its Royal Charter - but the event dates back to 1858. Christine Pain, Secretary of the Royal Manx Agricultural Society, said that as always the show had brought together people from all over the Island and from all ages and all backgrounds.
