Albany LTC latest News

by isleofman.com 31st August 2012

Apologies to our main club sponsor, Panacea Pharma Projects as I omitted to say last week that the Club Championships are sponsored by PPP, who also sponsor the club’s Mini Tennis programme and the October Open Junior competition.

Entries for club championships close on Monday 10 September. There is no entry fee.
Entry forms are in the clubhouse, have been e-mailed to all members or you can e-mail  manxsally@manx.net. Please put your entry in early by this weekend if possible as there are lots of things to arrange before the tournament starts.

Albany, the holders, just lost out by 11 games in the annual triangular club match for the Todmorden Shield held at Castletown last Sunday. Castletown won with Albany second and Ramsey third. There were some close competitive games, with two pairs men and two pairs women playing the other 2 pairs from each club, where every game counts. The club gave debuts to this competition to Katy Harris (13) and Sean Drewry (14) and they acquitted themselves very well. Next year’s event will be hosted by Ramsey.

Don’t forget that entries for the President’s Day Senior/Junior tournament close on September 6. Entries to Bryan Sharp posted to Ballabreck, South Cape, Laxey IM4 7BY, or e-mail ballabreck@manx.net. As usual entries are slow coming in and again it would help to have entries in now as the ladies have to cater for a barbeque for the juniors and a buffet for the adults, so they need numbers in good time. Again there is no entry fee but donations towards the Albany Special Development Project would be appreciated. There is also a raffle.

Congratulations to Marc Chinn, Laura Feely, Catherine Breed, Sean Cassidy and Callum Watson who all gained the required grades to enable them to go to university. We wish them well in their chosen studies and look forward to seeing them at the club when they come home for the holidays.

Keep a look out for the latest issue of Tramlines – it’s very informative. Our Editor, Karen Smith, is to be congratulated on a slick, professional “in house” magazine. Well done Karen.
