It’s no mystery how the Young Magicians of Mann have achieved their silver anniversary. So says their founder, Mike Clague. “The island has thousands of fantastic young people” he told us, “and unsurprisingly, some find that real magic is learning new skills with which to entertain others. Conjuring is a great hobby, and club members past and present are to entertain and amaze at a special show to celebrate 25 years of prestidigitation and fun”. Magic! can be seen at the Gaiety Theatre on Friday 14th September and is sponsored by ManxCover (Blackford & Co) and SMP Partners. “Rehearsals have been really fun” Mike added, “and I’m confident that the family audience will also have a great time”. The show starts at 7pm and is being staged in partnership with Youth Events, part of the Department of Education and Children’s Youth Service.
Magic! includes some fantastic mysteries. If you’ve ever wanted to see light bulbs being pushed through a body, people appearing from nowhere, a performing rubber chicken, a boy being sliced into three pieces and living to tell the tale, a dancing cow, a body being twisted or perhaps just find out what happens when young magicians meet, this could be your only opportunity to do so for a very long time! The Young Magicians of Mann will be supported by Joe Hillard and the Viva Girls, Represent Dance Company and local professional magicians Chris Burns and Colin Boardman. Lexi Watterson, a member of The Magic Circle, will re-create the act that won her entry to the prestigious magic club in London, and compere for the evening is ex-member Juan Corrin. Ending a truly magical evening will be the award winning magic act of Scott Penrose, Vice President of The Magic Circle.
Even the souvenir show programmes will be special, as they contain tricks to learn and perform. Mike explained “ magicians don’t usually give away secrets, but on this occasion we want to share a little magic with those who come along to support us.”
