The Department of Health is pleased to announce that Noble’s Hospital has become an accredited IMPACT training centre having ran an extremely successful pilot course earlier this year. It is anticipated that IMPACT will now run twice yearly.
 
IMPACT is a nationally accredited course which was designed by senior doctors to assist trainee/junior doctors and senior nurses with the recognition and treatment of seriously unwell patients. The focus of this course is the prevention of cardiac arrest and the appropriate referral of unwell patients for more specialist treatment.
 
In January 2012, the Medical Education and the Resuscitation Departments at Noble’s Hospital arranged for Dr Magnus Garrioch, National Director of IMPACT and Mike Davis, Academic Educator, to visit the hospital and provide an instructor day for 12 senior medical staff. The instructor day enabled senior doctors from anaesthetics, medicine, cardiology and emergency medicine to become IMPACT instructors and pass on IMPACT training to other staff.
 
Minister for Health, David Anderson MHK said: “This latest development in on-Island training shows the Department of Health’s commitment to enhancing the high standards of care we provide for the Island, and reflect advancements in medical practice.”
 
The IMPACT course is endorsed by the Royal Colleges of Physicians, Surgeons and Anaesthetists as well as being supported by the Intensive Care Society and the Resuscitation Council UK. This new course now also complements the multi-professional Acute Life-Threatening Events Recognition Treatment (ALERT) course that was introduced to Noble’s Hospital last year.
