What would you do if someone offered you a parachute and then told you the ropes had been cut?
Actuall y, it’s not as bad as it sounds! When the son of a member of the Isle of Man live at Home Schemes heard that the charity was trying to think of an unusual way to raise awareness of the scheme, together with a novel way to raise funds, he asked them if they would be able to make use of a de-commissioned RAF parachute.
The team at LAH thought that it would be a great way to stage a balloon race and have some fun at the same time. Tickets are being sold at ?2.00 each and people are being invited to write a dream, wish or memory on their ticket before it is released into the sky. The date for the balloon release is Sunday 30th September at 4.00 at the Millennium Playing Fields in Marown and the Isle of Man Live at Home Team would like to invite the general public along to come and watch the release.
Isle of Man Live at Home Schemes provide support and friendship to older people who have become isolated and/or lonely.
There are six schemes providing older peoples’ services throughout the island. In the North, West, North Douglas, South Douglas, Onchan and Laxey & Lonan areas. Over 400 older people are befriended by trained and supported volunteers, who often become a vital lifeline to them.
If you would like to purchase a balloon ticket or chat with someone about becoming a member or volunteer for any of the schemes, please contact Jan Farrell on 342602 for more information.
