The Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association has appointed Trevor Taubman as General Team Manager for the 2014 Games in Glasgow. He will play a significant role in organising our national team for the event which is the highest stage upon which the Isle of Man can compete as an independent country. Trevor joined the Isle of Man CGA in 2008 - the same year he retired from the sport of competitive shooting. He was appointed as Manager of the Island’s shooting team and Assistant General Team Manager for the Isle of Man squad at the at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India. Following this he was invited to take on the role of General Team Manager for Team Isle of Man at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi at which Manx competitors won two bronze medals - Mark Christian in the track cycling scratch race, and Tim Kneale in the double trap shooting event.

The Isle of Man successfully hosted the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games, and Trevor was Team Manager for the home nation. Commenting on his appointment as General Team Manager for the 2014 Games, he said: “While CGA are unable to give an indication of team size at this early stage, I am confident that with the enthusiasm and commitment already being shown by our athletes in their preparation, we will have a team in Glasgow more than capable of returning with medals - as we did in Delhi.”

According to figures from Global Television and Sunset+Vine - host broadcasters for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games - more than one billion TV viewers are expected to watch the event. The Isle of Man will be one of 70 nations competing in Glasgow between July 23 and August 3, 2014. The 11 days of competition covers 17 sports; 10 of which are core sports played at every Games and seven selected by the host city. In preparation for the Games Glasgow is currently undergoing major infrastructure work including a new sports arena which will be one of the largest of its type in Europe and an athletes’ village capable of housing up to 6,500 visitors. The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome - named in honour of Scotland’s most successful gold medal winning Olympian and Commonwealth Games champion - will host its first competition on November 16 with a World Cup event lasting three days. Hoy, the most successful British Olympian of all time, will not be racing but will be at the event which will help to build anticipation for as the countdown continues to Glasgow 2014.
