Castletown crews were alerted at 21:49 on Friday 14th September to a report of the Fire Alarm operating within a block of flats in Malew Street Castletown.

Upon arrival the Officer in charge, Leading Firefighter Jeff Howland and his crew were confronted with smoke issuing from a flat on the first floor, he and his crew tried to gain access to the flat which was believed to be occupied at the time but were unable to get the occupants to respond, due to this serious situation an extra Fire Engine from Port Erin along with an Ambulance were dispatched. As Fire crews were just about to force an entry the Lady occupant and her young child opened the front door of the flat which was severely smoke logged.

Fire crews using 2 Breathing Apparatus swiftly entered the smoke logged flat and dealt with fire, which was caused by a grill pan in an over being left unattended due to the lady falling asleep.

Paramedics carried out checks on both the occupants who had slight smoke inhalation but they were not taken to Nobles Hospital.
