The latest collaboration between Peel Centenary Centre and the Sayle Gallery, Douglas sees Rosi and Peter Robinson exhibiting their very different art works together for the first time.
Rosi is well-established as a Sayle Gallery artist, with her bold, semi-abstract paintings capturing the mood and energy of her chosen subjects. She is a former winner of the Singer & Friedlander/Isle of Man Newspapers art competition, and reached the final 30 out of almost 2,000 entries, in an international online competition run by the Saatchi Gallery in London earlier this year. This new exhibition at the Peel Centenary Centre includes three digital works whose use of colour is strikingly bold, and different.
Peter’s watercolours are more traditional, but still use strong colour, with simple – although often unusual – composition. Like Rosi, Peter, who is a Friend of the Sayle Gallery, is also inspired by the Manx scenery and particularly by the work of his hero, Norman Sayle (after whom the Douglas gallery is named).
As well as painting, both Rosi and Peter, who recently moved to Laxey, are active in the local community. Peter was vicar of Arbory, Castletown and Santon and earlier this year he was made full-time Bishop’s Chaplain. Rosi teaches art in the Learning Support Services at the Isle of Man College.
The exhibition, which continues until end of November, can be viewed during performances and events at the Peel Centenary Centre, and Rosi and Peter’s work is available to buy.
