In the year when Scottish Widows, as part of the Lloyd Banking Group, served as official pensions and investment provider to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the company has, once again, sponsored Peel Golf Club’s junior competition.
Winner was 14-year-old Alex McAuley who was presented with the trophy by Scottish Widows’ director Juan Clarke who said: ‘The company, originally as CMI and now as Scottish Widows, has been pleased to sponsor the junior competition since 1998. We see this as a good fit with our sponsorship programme that has seen us sponsor, for the past five years, the Island’s primary school tag rugby finals and the Summer Reading Challenge in association with the Henry Bloom Noble Library in Douglas.
‘This has been an exceptionally exciting year for sport with the Olympics and Paralympics taking place in London. As well our professional involvement with the Games, all of us at our Victoria Road, Douglas office have been entering into the spirit of these world-class sporting events, taking part in a whole host of in-house Olympic-themed activities in the all-too rare moments away from our desks.
‘Here at Peel Golf Club it is always truly inspiring to see so many talented young people achieve success in their chosen sport, and also to witness the tremendous support they receive, not only from their families but also from the club’s officials. It is this supportive network that has led to Peel Golf Club having quite possibly the finest junior section in the Isle of Man, one with which all of us at Scottish Widows are proud to be associated.’
