The Department of Infrastructure advises that major maintenance work will commence on Ballacottier Roundabout on Monday 1st October 2012. This work will include the reconstruction of the carriageway as well as the roundabout itself as these have both failed. Due to its location, this roundabout carries a significant number of heavy goods vehicles and the turning movements on the roundabout have accelerated the deterioration of the carriageway and the centre roundel at this location. The replacement work will be carried out to a higher specification and should last for many years to come.
The work will be carried out in two phases. The first phase of the works will be the reconstruction of the Foxdale-bound carriageway and half of the roundabout. At this time the junction will be controlled by three-way traffic lights providing access to all routes. It is expected that this phase will last for 6 weeks. The second phase of the works will be carried out under a one way system operating between Ballacottier Roundabout and Vicarage Road, with traffic travelling towards Foxdale only. A local diversion via Vicarage Road will be signed for traffic travelling towards Douglas, but heavy goods vehicles are encouraged to divert using either the A1 Douglas-Peel road or A5 Douglas-Castletown road. It is anticipated that this phase will also last for 6 weeks with the overall scheme completed by late-December 2012.
At various times to be advised, the road will need to be fully closed in order to complete re-surfacing work. The Department will issue further detailed information as the works progress.
All businesses including, Eden Park will remain open and accessible during this work.
The Department would like to thank you in advance for your patience and co-operation. If you have any concerns or queries regarding the work, please phone 850000.
