Road conditions poor after heavy rain

by isleofman.com 25th September 2012

Road conditions remain poor after heavy and persistent overnight rain.

Inspector Derek Flint said " When we looked at the situation around 12:30 am it was pretty bleak, and the Met Office was reporting little respite until later this morning.

It is impossible to check all the roads around the Island, and we would impress on people setting out for their journey this morning to take extra care and drive to the conditions.

For drivers navigating the back roads, be very wary of any standing water. Some puddles have turned out to be several feet deep and  unsuitable for a vehicle to drive through. In particular, river fords should be avoided.

Some road closures are in place, and we advise people to check in to our Facebook or Twitter pages for timely updates.

We are in continued communication with the Department of Infrastructure, with road closures and flood warnings being put in place where and when necessary.
