New App developer launched on Island

by isleofman.com 25th September 2012

A new and exciting software company has launched in the Isle of Man. Gryphon Digital specialises in the bespoke design, build, and launch of “Smartphone” apps such as those used by the iPhone.

Richard Kijak, of Douglas-based Gryphon Digital, says “There is enormous growth forecast in the use of Smartphones around the world and with that growth there is proving to be an explosion in the demand for applications (“apps”) for these devices. Companies are rushing to ensure that their products and services are accessible beyond everyday desktop computers.

The demand for mobile apps, that are specifically designed with the Smartphone as its core method of use are vitally important. Rather than squashing existing web based services onto a small screen, a bespoke app developer is able to produce a beautiful, high quality app experience for the user by tailoring the app and its features to the dimensions of the Smartphone screen. A business with its own app can place its products or services in the hands of many more potential customers - literally.”

Matthew Oates, who also works in the Gryphon Digital team, providing dedicated graphic design skills, says “The look and feel of the app should be simple and straight forward. It is easy to design something that is overly complex and cluttered, but it takes a great deal more time and attention to create a functional application that is both elegant and intuitive. Its performance should be slick, clean and no nonsense because that is what customers expect from these apps.

Gryphon is able to build both ‘business-to-business’ apps for commercial use, as well as apps targeting consumers broadly and can handle apps across a range of industries including finance, banking, right through to gaming.”

Richard continued, “It’s estimated that by 2014 there will be worldwide annual sales of 1 billion Smartphones, and for sales of desktop platforms, there is no longer the growth there once was. By 2016,just 4 years from now, it is estimated that 10 billion mobile devices will be used. Smartphone traffic will grow 50 times in size from where it is today”.

Gryphon is already well advanced in launching its first app for a large and successful financial services company – the hopeful success that will follow could help earn the Isle of Man a new nickname… ”Silicon Island”!
