There is still time for people to submit their views about the role and size of Government in the Isle of Man.
The public consultation on the revised Scope of Government Report runs until 5pm on Friday, October 5, 2012. The consultation document can be found on the Government website at http://www.gov.im/lib/docs/cso//scopeconsultation2012.pdf.
The report, produced by an independent review team at the request of the Chief Minister, recommends narrowing the range of services that are directly delivered by Government.
It proposes a number of ‘Alternative Means of Service Delivery’ including privatisation, contracting out, executive agencies, public/private partnerships and corporatisation – services run on a more commercial basis by Government-owned companies.
As the deadline for submissions approaches, the Chief Minister is encouraging members of the public to express their views on the acceptability or otherwise of the recommendations.
Mr Bell said: ‘Government has a duty to consider if there are different, more efficient and affordable ways of providing certain services that would help us to focus taxpayer funding on the core areas that need it most. The Scope Report raises some fundamental questions and we want to hear what people think before deciding the way forward.’
Comments can be submitted to the Scope of Government Consultation, Chief Secretary’s Office, Government Office, Bucks Road, Douglas, IM1 3PN, via email scope@gov.im or by completing an online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ScopeofGov.
