Appleby Announce Partnership with Junior Achievement

by isleofman.com 28th September 2012

Appleby (Isle of Man) LLC is pleased to announce the launch of its latest corporate responsibility initiative in partnership with Junior Achievement Isle of Man.

Aimed at upper sixth form students the Appleby Academy will launch in Ballakermeen, Castle Rushen, Queen Elizabeth II, Ramsey Grammar and St Ninians High Schools this week and aims to give young people on the Isle of Man real life experience of working with an international organisation.

With the help of an Appleby mentor, students will present their ideas on how they would meet a particular business challenge for the chance to win a paid summer placement at Appleby.

Sean Dowling, Managing Partner of Appleby (Isle of Man) LLC commented: “Junior Achievement’s commitment to students on the Isle of Man is fantastic and we are pleased to be working with them on this exciting new initiative. Appleby recognise the important role that young people play in our community and we hope that the Appleby Academy will help set them apart when applying for a university place or a job when they leave school.”

“I would like to thank Appleby for the financial and time commitment they have made to Junior Achievement”, said Sue Cook, Chief Executive of Junior Achievement Isle of Man.

“In this climate of high youth unemployment investment in education and work experience is more important than ever before. Programmes such as the Appleby Academy will help to empower students on the Isle of Man to become business minded by engaging them in real life business challenges. They will also help to equip them with the skills and experience they need to strengthen their CV or UCAS application forms.”

Appleby’s partnership with Junior Achievement forms part of a larger initiative by the firm to focus its commitment to charitable causes of the Island through a newly launched Corporate Responsibility Strategy centered on youth, education and sport. Over the coming months the firm will pledge financial and resource support to the Appleby Academy and will commit further funds to its staff and clients to support their fund raising efforts.
