The Emergency Services Joint Control Room received a call from the occupier of a property on Quarterbridge Road in the small hours of Friday Night / Saturday morning when he was woken by the glow from a fire in an out building associated with his property.
As the Fire Service arrived the roof of the out building collapsed sending flames in excess of 30 feet into the air scorching nearby trees and showering the immediate area with burning embers.
Fire crews got to work quickly wearing breathing apparatus and using hose reels to bring the blaze under control and eventually deploying a larger hose to apply larger quantities of water to finally extinguish the fire. Once the fire was extinguished it was noted that an electrical supply to the outbuildings had been seriously affected by the fire and the Manx Electricity Authority were requested and an engineer was quickly in attendance to render the supply safe.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time but it will be investigated.
