The Isle of Man Insurance and Financial Services Institute held a technical workshop on the 28 September 2012 entitled ‘Recent Legal Precedents in General Insurance’. The workshop was presented by one of the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Advanced Technical Trainers, Mr Rod Smith.
The technical workshop was attended by a cross-section of members from the general insurance industry in the Isle of Man, including many students undertaking professional qualifications through the Chartered Insurance Institute. In addition to Rod, attendees benefited from the presence of Rod’s wife, Bridget, who is herself a Technical Trainer with the CII. Topics covered during the day included:-
The principles of modern insurance law
Key legal precedents of the last decade
Their impact on the industry
The reasons behind the cases and the statutes
How to use law in everyday practice
Karen Clark, current President and Honorary Education Secretary of the Isle of Man Insurance and Financial Services Institute, stated “It is a pleasure to have someone of Rod’s calibre presenting this workshop to our members. The workshop was only one of four being given this year by Rod to Local Chartered Insurance Institutes and, for the Isle of Man to be awarded one of these is a great honour and a credit to the work being done by our Local Institute Council”.
