MTTV on-demand news service passes half a million views

by isleofman.com 3rd October 2012

MTTV, the Island’s first online HD video news service, has now been watched more than 500,000 times according to statistics provided by Google Analytics. Over 600 individual reports have been published since Manx Telecom launched the service on February 1st this year, covering every aspect of Island life from breaking news, sport, politics, business and finance through to entertainment, charity events and the environment.

Available through the manx.net website, MTTV viewers are also able to follow real time daily updates via an RSS feed and through Manx Telecom’s Facebook and Twitter pages, alerting them the moment a new report is published. With the MTTV channel also planned to be available through YouView set top boxes that Manx Telecom launched earlier this month, Manx Telecom CEO Mike Dee believes the ability to watch MTTV through any internet enabled device has been key to its success. He commented:

“We’re delighted to have achieved this significant milestone so soon and to see such a wide range of local content being regularly watched by people of all ages on their PC, tablets and mobile handsets on a daily basis. It’s a definite indicator that people want to get up to date local news content as it happens, wherever and whenever they want it - that’s a perfect fit for us as a communications business and a great opportunity for advertisers to reach the rapidly growing ‘digital’ local audience.”

Presented by former BBC and Granada journalist Paul Moulton, over 1.3 million minutes of video have been streamed from servers based at Manx Telecom’s Douglas data centre. The most watched video with over 10,000 views was the Hercules aircraft which recently landed at Ronaldsway carrying computer hardware for PokerStars, closely followed by the walk out to the Tower of Refuge, the Olympic Torch relay, water treatment problems and Olympic gold medalist Peter Kennaugh’s return to the Island. Later this year, MTTV reports will also be published through isleofman.com, the local directory and news website Manx Telecom acquired in March, further increasing the local and international distribution.
