Magic Carpets 38 v Toomraiders 26 by Pip Cross

Magic Carpets were delighted to win their first ever premiership match, thoroughly deserved too.

Sarah Collister was so strong at GA and Kerry Kelly has superb vision with the feed into the circle.  Nina Corrin was cool under pressure in the circle at GS. Toomraiders were unlucky to lose possession on occasions and let the match slip away.

Thompson Travel Roundup by Pip Cross

Thompson D played their first game of the season, with 5 debutants and 3 seniors making a comeback.

Not a bad start with a 29 alldraw against Marbree Motors. Thompson C who have 3 players out injured were unlucky against their team mates, Thompson B.  Emily Bell for the B’s putting in a fine performance at GS.

Route 1 Connections 37 v C & S Joinery B 19 by Clair Barks

Both teams started equally with the first 5 minutes going goal for goal. Route 1 stepped on the accelerator, upped their game and started to carve a good lead for the first quarter.  Fiona Clark-Wilson and the attacking feeders played superbly and Route 1 managed to keep a good lead to carry them into the second half.  Both sides made tactical changes at half time resulting in the second half looking like a different game.  Tracey Dentith’s move to GS made tough work for the C&S defense and it was just too difficult to stop the goals coming.  Bethan Kneen created some wonderful space throughout the cirlce for the C&S attack but Route 1’s defensive duo, Katrina Keeling and Paige Skillicorn, was just too strong for the up and coming C&S youngsters.  It was great to see young players coming through the ranks for both teams and is proving that the development of netball allows good progression opportunities as Manx Netball starsof the future, debut in the Premier League.

Players of the Match:  Fiona Clark-Wilson (Route 1 Connections); (Bethan Kneen (C &S Joinery B).

C&S Joinery A 28 v Balla A 26 by Clair Barks

This was always going to be the dynamic game  on everyone’s mind with the league hanging on a single game between the two sides last season.  SMP Balla A had the better start as their shooters converted the first 2 centre passes without a hitch. C&S A took a few minutes to find their feet and redress the balance as they realised that they could not let Balla A get ahead or they would lose their chance to control the game.  C&S managed to obtain a level score but never got ahead in the first quarter and were 2 down when the whistle blew for quarter time.  C&S made changes in the shooting circle bringing Erin Keggin on at GS.  The game seemed to flow well for C&S as the attacking team from then on and they took the lead.  Once again SMP’s Ashley Hall was a pleasure to watch at the centre position and her partnership with Jane Ryder-Clague is always a strong force but with hesitation from the shooters it was difficult to get the ball where they needed it.  SMP’s attacking play was read well by Louise Duncan who managed to intercept SMP’s cross court passes, allowing C&S to take a good firm hold on the lead.  This was not easy as Balla’s impressive track record proves that these girls fight for every last ball and it is not over till the final whistle goes.  Today was not to be Ballasalla’s day, with superb play throughout the whole game by Hannah Kermode, she helped her team remain in control of the ball and when the final whistle was blown C&S were up by 2 goals.  C&S will feel that they’re half way to the league title this year but Balla will have other ideas.  The second encounter between these 2 teams this season will definitely be one to watch.
