JD Collister Bequest Consultation Response Report

by isleofman.com 5th October 2012

Manx National Heritage (Manx Museum and National Trust) is pleased to announce the publication of the findings of their recent consultation on the JD Collister Bequest.

Manx National Heritage received 112 responses to the consultation which sought views on the use of a generous bequest from John Donald Collister, who left an estate valued in the region of ?1 million to the Manx Museum and National Trust.

The consultation opened in April 2012, inviting comment from individuals, groups or organisations on options, projects and activities falling within the remit of the Manx Museum and National Trust which may be partly or wholly funded by Mr Collister’s generous bequest.

Edmund Southworth, Director of Manx National Heritage said:

“We would like to extend our thanks to all those who responded to the consultation, which attracted a wide range of responses.  Several common themes emerged including the display of Mr Collister’s personal possessions in a military museum context, support of the local community heritage and associated events in Colby and Arbory, and support for traditional skills.

We will now be looking at how we can accommodate the suggestions received which might include the support of specific projects within the remit of the Manx Museum and National Trust and in accordance with the key themes emerging from this consultation process. We will also be talking to key stakeholders within the heritage community and within Arbory itself”.

A full breakdown of the consultation responses are available to view online at http://www.gov.im/lib/docs/mnh//summaryconsultationreportcollis.pdf.
