Fire in Governors Hill

by isleofman.com 8th October 2012

Fire crews from Douglas Fire Station were turned out on Saturday afternoon to a reported house fire in Governors Hill Douglas.

Neighbours had reported seeing smoke within the lounge of an unoccupied house and could hear a dog barking within.

Upon their arrival, fire crews forced entry using a specialist door breaking device and extinguished the fire using a high pressure water house reel. The cause of the fire is thought to have been reflected sunlight from a magnifying cosmetics mirror, igniting curtains within the rear lounge.

Fire damage was confined to the curtains and a small area of wall and ceiling above. No one was hurt during the incident and the dog escaped unharmed.
